    Event Description:

    The 2015 State of the Community will focus on how Berks County aligns with the newly released Pennsylvania Competitiveness Scorecard® developed by PA Business Council Foundation.  David Patti, President/CEO of the PA Business Council, will present the assessment of Pennsylvania’s competitive climate for attracting, growing, and nurturing private-sector economic activity.  The scorecard will also provide an annual benchmark against other states and a historical record of public policy impact on state competitiveness. 
    A panel will then address how Berks County aligns based on seven of the eight metrics of economic competitiveness: 

    • Budget, Taxes & Spending: Gordon Mann, Senior Managing Consultant - PFM Management and Budget Consulting  

    • Education Attainment: Dr. Jill Hackman, Executive Director - Berks County Intermediate Unit 

    • Workforce: Dan Fogarty, Director of Workforce Development & COO - Berks County Workforce Investment Board 

    • Energy Resources and Infrastructure: Tony Cox, Midstream Business Development - UGI Energy Services 

    • Healthcare: Dr. Lucy Cairns, Ophthalmology - Campanella & Pearah Eye Care Associates and President-Elect of the Berks County Medical Society 

    • Transportation: Alan Piper, Transportation Planner - Berks County Planning Commission   

    • Labor, Legal and Regulatory: Kevin Moore, Chair, Employment & Labor Practice Group - Leisawitz Heller
